Responding to Hanson's divisive rhetoric by declaring that "everyone in Australia is a migrant except the Indigenous" may feel powerful, but it plays exactly into the trap that has been set.
Australia is one of the most successful multicultural nations on Earth. Migrants from over 200 countries have built this nation alongside Indigenous Australians, who have cared for this land for over 65,000 years.
When we reduce Australian identity to a simplistic "migrant vs. Indigenous" binary, we are not challenging Hanson's racism—we are reinforcing her false narrative that Australians must choose sides based on race.
Hanson's vision of a "white monoculture" is an attack on the diversity that makes Australia strong. But the solution is not to create a new dividing line. It is to reject the premise entirely. Australian identity is not defined by skin color, birthplace, or ancestry. It is defined by shared commitment to democracy, fairness, and mutual respect. The plotters want us fighting each other.
They want us questioning each other's belonging. We must not give them that victory. Instead, we must stand united, reject division, and build a future where every Australian—regardless of background—can thrive.
